(Ultimate Second Amendment) holster features Galco's patented Generation III tuckable J-Hook. Galco first used the J-Hook design in the late 70's, but we always strive for improvement. Now, our Third Generation J-Hook continues to provide the ultimate in concealment. {my hands} week 13/52

{my hands} week 13/52

Last week,in my 15 minutes of mommy time, I walked to the photo book section of Borders. The very first book that caught my eye was 'this is who I am' by Rosanne Olsen. It was a photography book about women of all ages and their views about their bodies. Each page was a different woman of varying ages, sizes, and color. Next to their naked portraits was a page of their writing. These women were awesome. Some were old and talked about what their bodies could do now versus their youth; one was a beautiful asian woman who talked about the cultural norms in her country relating to her body; and one was a woman covered in the coolest tatoos. It is an amazing book- one i'll have to back and purchase. It made me think about my own body- the complaints we all have about our bodies, and how valid these really are if we think them through. I had planned this photo to mirror the book and maybe think about some of those things. Then this weekend I had a very emotionally difficult day that made me think about life. That's the only way I can put it without making the details too much. And then this idea of my body came to me (after a tall 'glass' of wine.)

These are my hands. My hands have served my body well over my almost 39 years. I imagine as an infant they held the fingers of my mother, the plastic of my bottles, and the blankies of comfort. I have a home video of myself at about 2 years old in which my hands clap in joy, gather snow as my mom swings me in a sled, and attempts to fit bricks back into a crumbling sidewalk. I can remember my hands loving the feel of that white paste (that we did eat, sorry to say), finger paints, and ripped up paper. My hands played the viola for 8 years- they plucked and stroked and missed notes as equally as they hit them. My hands have held hands with friends, family and loves. They have held books for learning, test tubes for working, and various sports equipment for my mental health. My hands have clapped and been raised in the air for countless musical concerts, though they have NEVER held up a Bic lighter. My hands have felt the growth of life within my body, and felt it emerge into the world. I have been graced in this life to have held all of my babies and kept them in my hands, never to be removed unless by choice. I have used my hands to stroke their quiet faces, serve them milk from my own body, swat their behinds when they've run to the end of the block without stopping, and to assist them in tasks great and small.

My hands have had the honor of helping other human beings enter and leave this world. I have sat and held the hands of dying people in both hospice and the hospital. I have handed new babies to their moms and dads with awe and joy each time. And every now and then these hands have done both.

I don't really like my hands if I just look at them. They are not girly or attractive. They are worker hands- big knuckles, large veins, stubby nails. But they have done a lot for me, and I think I love them a lot this week. I'm thankful for them.
